Mr Ernest Barlow-Kearsley specialises in the treatment of common and complex foot and ankle conditions. Mr Ernest Barlow-Kearsley employs conservative (non-surgical) methods wherever possible, as well as carrying out foot surgery for patients when necessary. It is his priority to find the best solution for your foot condition.

Mr Ernest Barlow-Kearsley  has been practicing as a Podiatrist since 1989, during his 35-year career he has worked studiously to be awarded his Fellowship in Podiatric surgery, he was appointed consultant podiatric surgeon to CLCH in 2006. In 2023 he retired from the NHS continuing to work as a podiatric surgeon in the Independent sector. Specialist in Podiatric Surgery

  • Managing the ongoing relationships with the local acute hospital Princes Royal Hayward’s Heath. 
  • Ensured the recruitment to the service of the support and nursing staff to the day surgery unit commissioned by the Sussex Community NHS Trust.
  • Won an NHS award for the development and commissioning of the service. 
  • Commissioned the use of a Scandinavian portable HEPA filtration system to create a sterile field instead of laminar airflow, which was an upgrade the existing ventilation system and saved the trust considerable capital outlay.

  • Managing the ongoing relationships within Imperial College NHS Trust and CLCH to deliver Podiatric Surgery as an elective ambulatory service.
  • Continually monitoring performance of individual clinicians in the service to meet the minimum standard of service as required by the HCPC and CLCH quality KPI’s.
  • Delivering productivity reports and ad hoc requests within stipulated timelines to CLCH board level. 
  • Building an excellent rapport with other hospital Consultants to provide an elective ambulatory foot surgery servie at all reporting levels.

2016

Clinical Lead in Podiatry and Podiatric Surgery

  • Facilitate PREMS/PROMS audits and clinical research within Podiatry and Podiatric Surgery within CLCH.
  • Liaise with other key departments including Orthopaedics, Medicine, Pathology and Radiology to resolve complex foot problems in a MDT scenario to deliver solutions.
  • Overall patient satisfaction rating of 85% in the national Podiatric Surgery audit tool (PASCOM-10)
  • Completed a cross party (microbiology, pharmacology, infectious diseases) guideline on the use of prophylactic antibiotics in clean elective podiatric surgery, the core principles have been selected by NICE to be used in a guideline in clean elective foot surgery.
